Dr. Casey provides continuing education seminars throughout the year both in the greater Nashville area and (through Vyne Education) across the country. 

A partial list of seminars (with learning objectives) is provided below. Each workshop is normally designed to provide 3 continuing education units.  However, workshops can be customized to meet specific needs. 

 

 
Ethics, Laws & Professional Issues
 
 
Conversations in Ethics: Interactive skill-building -- Terry Casey, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, HSP
This training uses an enjoyable (even fun) interactive format for participants to learn and practice a multi-perspective model of working through ethical dilemmas and other types of professionally-challenging situations. Participants will:  
  1. Be able to describe the multi-perspective model of working through ethical, legal and other types of professional problems. 
  2. Learn how to apply the different evaluative perspectives necessary to navigate ethical problems.  
  3. Build competence and confidence in their ability to work through difficult or perplexing ethical scenarios. 

 

Ethics and Children:  Interactive skill-building (3 CEUs)-- Terry Casey, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, HSP

 

This training uses an enjoyable interactive format for participants to learn and practice a multi-perspective model of working through ethical, legal and other professionally-challenging situations. Focus is on the special ethical and legal issues that accompany working with minors. Participants will:  
  1. Be able to describe the multi-perspective model of working through ethical, legal and other types of professional problems. 
  2. Learn how to apply the different evaluative perspectives necessary to evaluate ethical dilemmas. 
  3. Build competence and confidence in their ability to effectively handle difficult or perplexing ethical scenarios pertain to work with children.

 

Ethics and Private Practice: Interactive skill-building (3 CEUs) -- Terry Casey, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, HSP

 

This training uses an enjoyable interactive format for participants to learn and practice a multi-perspective model of working through ethical, legal and other professionally-challenging situations. Focus is on a variety of issues often encountered in private practice. Participants will:  
  1. Be able to describe the multi-perspective model of working through ethical, legal and other types of professional problems. 
  2. Learn how to apply the different evaluative perspectives necessary to evaluate ethical dilemmas in private practice.
  3. Build competence and confidence in their ability to navigate difficult or perplexing ethical scenarios encountered in private practice. 
 
Ethics for Clinical Supervisors: Interactive skill-building (3 CEUs) -- Terry Casey, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, HSP
This training uses an enjoyable interactive format for participants to learn and practice a multi-perspective model of working through ethical, legal and other professionally-challenging situations pertaining to clinical supervision. Participants will:  
  1. Be able to describe the multi-perspective model of working through ethical, legal and other types of professional problems. 
  2. Learn how to apply the different evaluative perspectives necessary to evaluate ethical dilemmas in clinical supervision.
  3. Build competence and confidence in their ability to navigate difficult or complex ethical scenarios pertaining to clinical supervision. 

The Licensing Process


The Journey from Grad School to LPC/MHSP (3 CEUs) – Terry Casey, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, HSP

 

This training explains the various (and sometimes confusing) requirements of the licensing process (e.g., supervision requirements, clinical setting, client contacts hours, etc.) and provides helpful strategies that will assist in the successful completion of the process.  Upon completion participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the sequence of steps that leads to the LPC/MHSP license.
  2. Identify the common obstacles encountered during the licensing process and how to avoid them.
  3. Describe key strategies for successful and timely completion of the licensure process.


Clinical Skills
 
Clinical Interviewing, Informed Consent and more (3 CEUs) – Terry Casey, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, HSP
This training utilizes demonstrations and illustrations to equip counselors to plan and perform intake interviews according to current counseling and mental health standards. Special emphasis given to the informed consent process involving parents and children. Upon completion, participants will be able to:
  1. Identify the essential elements of an intake interview
  2. Complete the informed consent process regarding adult and child clients.
  3. Conduct brief mental status exams with clients.
 
Psychopharmacology for Counselors (3 CEUs) – Terry Casey, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, HSP
This training surveys the most commonly used psychotropic medications and provides participants with a basic working knowledge of their uses appropriate for non-medical psychotherapists. Participants will learn:
  1. To describe the use, effectiveness and side effects of common psychotropic medications.
  2. The basic treatment strategies of pharmacotherapy as practiced by medical professionals.
  3. The common terminology and vocabulary associated with pharmacotherapy 
Behavioral Strategies with Children (3 CEUs) -- Terry Casey, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, HSP
This training is designed for counselors who assist parents in adopting effective ways of interacting with their children and successfully handling behavioral issues. The focus is on healthy boundaries and behavioral principles pertaining to parenting children 2-12 years of age. Upon completion participants will:
  1. Be able to educate parents about key concepts in behavior management with children.
  2. Be able to design basic behavioral interventions for parents to implement.
  3. Be able to monitor progress and make necessary changes in behavioral plans.
 

Practice Development
 
Private Practice Essentials (3 CEUs) – Terry Casey, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, HSP
This training provides an overview of the requirements for setting up a private practice as a counseling/mental health professional including such issues as referral sources, income streams, forms of business and more. Upon completion participants will be able to:
  1. Identify the various components and sequence necessary for setting up a private practice.
  2. Develop an initial business plan/strategy for their unique practice.
  3. Make a determination about what form of business and operational model are likely best suited to them.
 
 
Counselors and Insurance Provider Networks (3 CEUs) – Terry Casey, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist, HSP
This training is designed for counselors or other mental health professionals who want to gain an understanding of the potential advantages/disadvantages and process of joining insurance and EAP provider networks. Upon completion participants will: 
  1. Be able to describe the overall mental health insurance and EAP landscape.
  2. Be able to list the various potential advantages and disadvantages of being on insurance or EAP provider networks. 
  3. Be equipped to make informed decisions about whether joining insurance or EAP networks would likely be a good fit for their practice.
